The Best Friend Beanie

Writer's picture: A.TaylorA.Taylor

The Best Friend Beanie is a quick and fun hat to whip up! I love the warm, cozy texture the different stitch combinations give it!

Pattern Inspiration:

I came up with this pattern while I was working on the Covington Hat.  I love the look of crossed over stitches, and wanted to use one of my favorite stitches from the Sofie Cross Tote.

I paired it with a puff stitch to create a hat with alternating textures and ribbed brim.

Pattern Details:

For this pattern, I used a worsted weight weight #4 yarn and 5mm size H hook.

I chose Red Heart Soft in Coral as I was stash busting and I love the color.

Bernat Satin or Caron Simply Soft would pair nicely with this pattern as well. This yarn is 100% acrylic and can be machine washed and dried. It’s my go to yarn for when I’m designing for busy families and children.

I used approximately 145 yards to make this hat.

This pattern currently comes in 3 sizes: 12/36 months, 3 to 10 years and Youth/Adult Small.

This pattern is worked from the bottom to the top, beginning with making the ribbed brim.  From there you work up to the top of the hat and work decreasing stitches to bring it all in.  This hat looks great with or without a pom!

The pattern is rated Experienced Beginners in pattern difficulty.  All the stitches used are basic crochet stitches, though some require skipping stitches, then crossing behind and stitching into the skipped stitches.

Where to purchase:

This pattern is available on Ravelry. If you want to be a pattern tester for my future designs, please email me at amy.gn.taylor@gmail.com
